Sloan Valve Company Chooses 100 Percent Renewable Energy

Sloan Renewable Energy

FRANKLIN PARK, IL – Sloan Valve Company, the world's leading manufacturer of commercial plumbing systems, has made a landmark purchase of renewable energy credits to offset 100 percent of the electricity used in its manufacturing facility in Franklin Park, Ill. This is the largest renewable energy purchase in the plumbing industry, making Sloan the first flush valve manufacturer to purchase renewable energy credits to offset its electricity use. This purchase is also the largest corporate purchase of renewable energy in the state of Ill.

"Sloan Valve Company is a leader in the sustainability movement, and that involves caring about our communities and respecting our environment,” said Jim Allen, Sloan Valve Company’s water conservation manager. “This purchase of renewable energy credits is a natural extension of that leadership and is integral to our core values. Offsetting 100 percent of our electricity use with renewable, clean energy strengthens our commitment to being a leader in environmental stewardship by reducing our dependence on fossil fuels," Allen noted.

Starting in 2007, Sloan Valve Company is purchasing 20,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable energy credits from renewable energy facilities to operate its 450,000 square foot Franklin Park manufacturing facility. This purchase will avoid more than 27 million pounds of carbon dioxide pollution this year. To have the same environmental impact, more than 2,400 cars would have to be taken off the road, or more than 3,700 acres of trees would have to be planted, according to statistics from the Environmental Protection Agency.

Sloan Valve Company has chosen Colo.-based Renewable Choice Energy as its exclusive supplier of renewable energy credits. Renewable Choice Energy is a leading national provider building the market for clean and renewable sources of energy. "Renewable Choice Energy is thrilled to have been chosen to make this historic, renewable energy credit purchase possible," said Quayle Hodek, Renewable Choice Energy’s chief executive officer. "Sloan Valve Company’s commitment is an inspiration to everyone looking for a leader to demonstrate that renewable energy is ready for the mainstream," he said.

Sloan Valve Company is an industry leader in new environmental products and technologies, such as Waterfree Urinals and solar-powered faucets,” said Jim Allen. “Sloan Valve Company is a 100 year old family-owned and operated business, and the decision to offset our energy usage with renewable energy reflects our core values and commitment to reducing our company’s impact on the environment,” he added.

Sloan Valve Company is the world’s leading manufacturer of water-conserving plumbing systems and has been in operation since 1906. Headquartered in Franklin Park, Illinois, the family-owned company manufactures plumbing products and accessories for commercial, industrial, and institutional markets worldwide.
